Wairarapa Walking Festival 2025 Opening

15th Nov 9:30 am 12:00 pm

We’re kicking off the Wairarapa Walking Festival with a celebration on one of the region’s much-loved gems—the Greytown Rail Trail. Originally a branch railway line between Greytown and Woodside Station, the line was disused from the 1950s until local residents formed a trust in 2010 to transform it into the walking, running, and cycling track we enjoy today.

The Rail Trail offers a level, 5km route on a smooth, limed path – open in places, tree-lined in others – and winds through farmland with views across to the mountains. Popular year-round with walkers, cyclists, visitors, and locals alike, it’s the perfect spot to launch our festival.

The festival site opens at 9:30am, with coffee available to purchase thanks to Gracias Coffee. Meet the friendly teams from Masterton Foot Clinic and Masterton Shoe Clinic who will make sure you’re ready to walk. At 10:00am we’ll officially open the festival with a karakia, before inviting you to meander, stroll, or stride along the trail.

Look out for special treats along the way from the Greytown Lolly Jar, and celebrate your efforts at the finish with a sausage sizzle hosted by the Greytown Rail Trail Trust.
